AERATION AND OXYGEN LEVELS |
Keeping your lake or pond productive
starts with high oxygen levels at all depths. High oxygen levels
will reduce stress on fish, provide a healthier fishery, and help
reduce algae and aquatic weed growth. Under natural conditions,
plant life such as microscopic plankton or larger plants such as
elodea, produce oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis. Oxygen
is also absorbed at the surface of the water through diffusion. As
the below illustration shows, this process naturally supplies
higher levels of oxygen to the surface of the lake or pond. The
oxygen at the bottom of your pond is depleted by aerobic (oxygen
using) digestion of organic matter. This low level of oxygen
causes fish to only be able to use the upper strata of your lake
or pond. The temperature is also warmer at the surface and by mid
summer the thermalcline has formed and your lake or pond is now
stratified.

Without Aeration |
With Aeration |
 |
|
Stratified lakes can turn over when
the top layer of water mixes with the lower levels. A heavy, cool
rain or high winds sometimes causes this. This process can drop
the oxygen level of the lake or pond to dangerously low levels
causing high stress and fish kills.
|
|
DESTRATIFICATION SYSTEMS |
These systems move water from the
bottom of the pond to the surface. As water travels to the
surface, its oxygen level increases and the upwelling currents
keep the water mixed up not allowing the thermalcline to form.
This destratification can be obtained by diffused air systems
which pump air into the bottom of the pond, by pumping the water
directly to the ponds surface using an Oxymax system (more
information), or with a deep water intake on an AQUA MASTER fountain (more
information).

COMPRESSOR SHELTERS
The compressor must be placed in a clean, well ventilated area and
protected from the weather. If no housing is available, we
recommend using one of our compressor shelters to ensure proper
operation. This shelter is made of wood and can be stained by the
customer to blend into the natural landscape. A cooling fan for
forced air ventilation is available as an option. We recommend
using a cooling fan with all ¾ HP rotary vane units. Other units
may require a cooling fan if the compressor shelter is located in
an area protected from natural winds and in high sunlight
exposure. Steel cabinets available (16"x23½x14½). Contact our
office to discuss your specific needs. |

ANNUAL MAINTENANCE KITS
External air intake filters on compressors should be replaced
every three months. The maintenance kit available for each ATAC
Diffused Aeration System includes sufficient air filters for
changing four times a year. The kits also include all of the
internal parts needed for annual maintenance of the various
compressors. |

OXYMAX AERATION SYSTEM

 |
|
The Oxymax Aeration System works from the bottom of the
pond, completely submerged, out of sight and silent. It
couples an electric motor to a propeller water transport
system. The oxygen-depleted water is moved rapidly from
the bottom of the pond directly and efficiently to the
surface. This cooler, denser water absorbs oxygen as it
quickly spreads across the pond. It returns down through
the stratified layers, providing equal distribution of
oxygenated water. (Item# A-7401BSC) |

KOENDERS WINDMILL

|
This windmill is ideal for remote areas with no
electricity or where low operational cost is required.
Complete with tower, twelve blade turbine, and direct
drive diaphragm compressor which will begin to operate
with 5 m.p.h. wind. Unit provides approximately 1 cubic
foot of air per minute at 300 psi. Air is delivered
through flexible air tubing to diffuser in lake. This unit
provides a new tool for aerating ponds at an economical
price. (Item# A-KW) |
