Algae and Aquatic Weed Control Programs

What often starts out to be a beautiful lake side view, often ends up an algae and aquatic weed-infested nightmare for apartment communities, housing developments, home owners, as well as commercial and corporate lake sites. CHEMICAL CONTROL

These programs include bi-weekly treatments of aquatic weeds, algae, weeds in rock borders, and addition of lake dyes, if desired. BIOLOGICAL CONTROL

The best biological approach is to stock triploid white amurs (more information). Along with the amurs, we recommend adding a lake dye such as Aquashade or Aquatic Blue. These dyes filter out ultraviolet rays that are necessary for photosynthesis. This alone does not control the weeds, but does slow down their growth. Sometimes a spot treatment with chemicals is needed to jump-start this process.

AERATION

The best form of aeration is a system which will destratify your pond (more information).This process adds oxygen while lowering carbon dioxide levels at all depths making conditions less suited for weed growth. The added oxygen also speeds up the decomposition of organic mater which provides nutrients and increases growth of your pond’s planktonic algae. The planktonic algae is a microscopic one-celled plant which is the base of the food chain and through photosynthesis produces oxygen. It also gives your water a green tint, which reduces the sun light from reaching aquatic weeds. Usually stocking white amurs along with good aeration will reduce problems to a tolerable level.
