The first step in solving aquatic
problems is to have a biologist do an on-site inspection. Based on
the findings of the biologist, ATAC will recommend a solution. The
following consulting services are designed to help the homeowner,
maintenance professional, or property manager determine the
correct products and services to use to solve their problem or
implement an in-house prevention plan. Contact our office for
specific costs and to schedule your consulting service. (Discounts
may apply to products purchased from consulting services).

DO-IT-YOURSELF ALGAE AND AQUATIC
WEED CONTROL |
|
This
service involves an on-site inspection with a biologist who is
also a licensed aquatic applicator. ATAC will visit your site in
order to test your water and identify the algae and aquatic weeds
present. If feasible, ATAC will recommend biological control. If
not, the biologist then prepares a treatment program using EPA
approved aquatic herbicides and algaecides. The biologist will
instruct you through the first treatment and explain the basics of
applying aquatic herbicides and algaecides. Special equipment is
sometimes needed to apply products properly. All products and
equipment are available online from ATAC (see
catalog).

WATER QUALITY ANALYSIS |
|
Excellent water quality is vital to
the overall enjoyment of your lake or pond. Depending upon your
specific need, ATAC will conduct different levels of
investigation. ATAC has biologists with special training in water
quality and wastewater treatment. Their expertise allows ATAC to
solve any water quality problems such as fish kills, swimmers
itch, foul smelling water, etc.

|
Basic
analysis can also be completed via mail. Simply follow these steps
to insure an accurate sample. A sample bottle is included with
your paid analysis fee.
- Rinse clean, plastic sample
container three times with sample water and then fill container
with sample water.
- Close lid tightly and wrap lid
with tape to prevent leakage.
- Place the water sample into an
empty ziplock bag.
- Pack in a box with a soft
packing material and pack as a fragile item.
- Fill out a Lake Questionnaire
PDF / Online
Form and send a check for $35.00 payable to ATAC.
- Ship next day if possible.

WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT AND EROSION
CONTROL |
|
ATAC provides consulting on watershed
development by planting the proper ground cover. This will include
any special request such as attracting wildlife to the waters
edge. We also make recommendations on applying fertilizers in your
watershed properly to minimize damage to your lake or pond.
Erosion
is unsightly and speeds up eutrophication (the aging process of
your aquatic ecosystem) by adding large amounts of sediment which
reduces water depth and promotes algae and aquatic weed growth.
ATAC can solve any erosion problems you may have. ATAC recommends
installing rock (rip-rap) along edges of ponds to stop erosion.
Call us for estimates on installing rock. The picture at right
shows erosion at the waters edge which was caused by wave action
at the surface of the pond. Muskrats which burrow into the bank
can also accelerate this process.

|
POND DREDGING AND
RECONSTRUCTION
Sometimes eutrophication has
passed the point of an easy solution. The only choice is to start
over by dredging out all the sediment until an average depth of 6
feet or deeper is obtained. ATAC recommends bottom-mounted
aeration to slow down eutrophication, (more
information).

ATAC Tip: Proper Identification of
the algae and aquatic weeds is crucial to any successful control
program (See Lake
Questionnaire Form). |
